You’re Staying! Salesforce Career Programme for TAP Students 2013/2014

By Salesforce.org September 5, 2014

Salesforce Dublin TAP Mentees 2014This week we’re saying goodbye to a group of amazing interns who took part in the 2013/2014 ‘Salesforce Career Programme’ for TAP (Trinity Access Programme) students, and we’re also welcoming two of this same group to their new roles at Salesforce Dublin.

The TAP programme is a Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) initiative which aims to widen access and participation of students from underrepresented socio-economic groups at university. Salesforce works in partnership with Trinity College to provide hands on training and experience for these students and graduates.

During the Salesforce Career Programme, participants have the opportunity to shadow their choice of departments within Salesforce, and participate in 2/3 day long intensive workshops based around career decision making and preparation, goal setting, presentation skills training, and CV and interview skills. Eight select participants from the 2013/2014 programme also got the chance to interview for a three month long internship at Salesforce. In the upcoming programme, for the 2014/2015 academic year, twelve students will be selected, an increase in 50% from last year and twice as many from 2012/2013.

Internship:

Over the course of the summer, six interns were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Salesforce Dublin offices, be mentored by some of Salesforce’s leading executives, and learn vital business skills, helping them become more directed in their career path, more confident in their communication skills, and more proficient in business and marketing practices.

Last week, two of our summer interns, Katie Latchford and Wayne Cummins were even lucky enough to be given the opportunity to continue at Salesforce, interning on the Customer Intelligence Team (CIT), and the Web Marketing Team:

During her time on the programme, Katie worked with the Salesforce CIT (Customer Intelligence Team), gaining experience in administrative and sales activities; she also provided support to various other teams in the Dublin offices. “The Salesforce Career Programme for TAP taught me so much; the workshops during the year gave me an insight into all the different departments in Salesforce, and shadowing was a great way of getting an in depth look into the different departments and roles within Salesforce. The mentoring was also so valuable because it helped me plan my career and focus on how to progress after college.”

Wayne is a Business and Sociology graduate from Trinity College Dublin – this was his second time applying for the programme. “The main reason I applied for this programme was for the mentoring as I needed advice from somebody who had a huge amount of life experience, and most importantly professional experience. Overall, this programme has grown my confidence, and being exposed to influential leaders in the company has allowed me to develop my skills. I would encourage people to apply for this programme because it’s a life changing experience and it opens up so many new doors.”

The Salesforce Career Programme for TAP students runs every year, from October to May. For more information about applying to the programme, please contact: Laila McDonald, Foundation Programme Coordinator.
