Salesforce Interns’ Year in Reflection with Genesys Works

By: Amy Lenz, Genesys Works Bay Area
On Wednesday, April 20, Salesforce kicked off the 3rd year of “Year in Reflection” speeches with our Genesys Works – Bay Area interns. The interns, who work part-time in the Salesforce IT, Customer Success, Web Development, and Salesforce.org departments, reflected on their internship journeys over the past 8 months and thanked their supervisors and teams. Genesys Works is a nonprofit that provides real-world opportunity to underserved and economically disadvantaged high school students by providing training in areas that companies value and internships. Genesys Works creates an infrastructure that makes business environment internships invaluable to both students and employers.
The contributions of our Genesys Works interns have been incredible: from quality assurance and re-imaging to supporting the Salesforce Help Desk and developing a diversity series; they can do it all. The students, who are all high school seniors, came to Salesforce well trained in technical skills, but it is their soft skills that truly make them successful. Their Salesforce managers continue to be impressed by the students’ professionalism, adaptability, flexibility, and eagerness to learn. A common theme of the “Year of Reflection” event was “wow, I can’t believe this is a high school senior!”
Salesforce has partnered with Genesys Works – Bay Area since 2013, through financial support and hosting 30 interns. While the benefits to the company are undeniable, the program is also about investing in local low-income students and providing them with the skills they need to succeed in today’s economy. In fact, 100% of Salesforce’s Genesys Works interns are planning to go to college, most of them choosing to pursue degrees in computer science after their exposure to Salesforce!
We’re incredibly proud of this partnership and look forward to continued growth of the program.
