Nonprofit Showcase in Salesforce’s Atlanta Hub
“Wait, what?” My friend, who is about to start her new job as a Success Manager at Salesforce, asked me to repeat myself. That’s right, I confirmed, you have 56 paid hours of volunteer time this year! And when you do that, you’ll get $1,000 to give to the nonprofits of your choice. Totally up to you how you want to give your time and talents. Just think; if we all earn our grants this year, more than $600,000 could go to the Atlanta community’s nonprofits!
She was astonished. There are so many worthy causes in Atlanta, she said, how will I choose? You’re in luck, I told her. Back-by-popular-demand, our 2nd Annual Salesforce.org Showcase is happening this week. You’ll get to meet a bunch of those amazing organizations first-hand. We’re very proud of what’s become a super-fun Atlanta office tradition.
On March 30, twenty-five nonprofits set up shop in the kitchens on the 30th and 31st floors of the Salesforce Atlanta Hub. Each nonprofit was nominated and hosted by a Salesforce employee, so a broad range of causes were represented. From PAWS Atlanta, the no-kill shelter that snuck impossibly adorable puppies up the service elevator, to HireHeroes, where veterans can learn Salesforce skills for free, to the American Red Cross whose broad range of services are so much more than “blood and flood,” there was something for everyone at this feel-good, do-good event. There was even a station to show employees how to log their Volunteer Time Off (VTO) hours in VolunteerForce on their phone!
Each nonprofit came to the Showcase armed with passionate stories to illustrate the impact their organizations have on the Atlanta community and the world. Employees roamed the kitchens and munched on fresh, hot popcorn while they listened and learned about the many challenges our nonprofits are trying to solve. There were many tangible ways that employees could get involved right away, from Reading Buddies at Woodward Elementary School to packing food with Stop Hunger Now to walking Light the Night with the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society.
Sign-up sheets were full and the nonprofits made us promise we’d invite them back next year.
I spotted my friend at the end of the Showcase holding a puppy and a handful of brochures with a big smile on her face. I’m on my way, she said, and I know who’s going to get my $1,000 grant to when I complete my 56 hours. I can’t wait to see the look on their face when I tell them!
