Hub Heroes: May 2018

The Power of Us Hub is an online community for Salesforce.org customers, certified partners and staff. The Hub is a place for you to get answers, build your Salesforce skills, share your expertise and connect with others in the nonprofit, higher education, and K-12 sectors who are using Salesforce!
Every month we feature members of the Power of Us Hub who help other members become more successful — they become “Hub Heroes”!
For the month of May, we are proud to highlight the community contributions of Sandy Hunter, Collin Zimmerman and Nina Gomez-Fernandini. Thanks to Sandy, Collin and Nina for all you do! Want to nominate someone who has helped you in the Hub? Nominate a helpful Hubber!
We ask that our Hub Heroes share two truths and a lie about themselves — take a look below! Head to the Power of Us Hub, meet Sandy, Collin and Nina, and see if you can solve their “two truths and a lie!”
See you in the Hub!

1. Two truths and one lie about you!
- I recently passed my Salesforce Administrator Certification exam
- I spend my summers performing at music festivals
- I once rode a giraffe across the Sahara desert
2. Why is community important to you? What motivates you to contribute?
The community has been a constant source of inspiration and ingenuity. It’s a place to ask tricky questions and find creative solutions and help others do the same. It’s helped me understand the wide breadth of the nonprofit ecosphere and the many wonderful people who help develop the work we do.
It’s also the reason I’ve focused my career on Salesforce. There is a culture to constantly make everyone and everything better. Where else can you get that in this crazy world.

1. Two truths and a lie about you!
- I’m a competitive stair climber. I’ve climbed the 48 floors of the Indianapolis Salesforce Tower in under 11 minutes.
- I love desserts.
- I am right handed.
2. Why is community important to you? What motivates you to contribute?
I believe nonprofit organizations have the power to change the world and that technology helps them achieve their goals. Salesforce gives a customizable platform to conform to the needs of every nonprofit organization. The Power of Us Hub is a wonderful community of mission-driven people helping others extend their instance of Salesforce to achieve their organization’s goals. I remember when I was starting out on Salesforce, I had many questions. I quickly learned that the Power of Us Hub was filled with a helpful community of dedicated nonprofit professionals willing to share solutions to questions. The community inspired me to continue learning the Salesforce platform and NPSP.
Today, I log into the Power of Us Hub to share what I’ve learned with this fantastic community. I remember how nervous I was when I became the admin of my organization’s Salesforce instance; I quickly learned how helpful the Power of Us Hub was. I want to make sure I give that same welcoming and supportive experience for those in the Hub today. The members of this community inspire me to push the Salesforce platform further to enable their success.

2. Why is community important to you? What motivates you to contribute?
Community and contribution are important to me because they are the centerpiece of what drives effective innovation. We all have different perspectives and experiences which, when you bring it all together, allows every one of us to work smarter, not harder. This is especially true when you have a community like ours where people are comfortable enough to ask a whole host of questions from the most mundane to the most technical.
I treasure the ability to ask and share with such a vast group of knowledgeable people from all walks of life and from such varied institutions/organizations. You never know who and from what sector the answer will come from, but what you do know is that the answer will be thoughtful and based on real-life experience. Whether it’s to say, “Wow, we have the same problem. Maybe we should create an Idea!” to get something trending or “We had the same problem. Here is how we solved it…”, the dialogue undoubtedly helps not only the one asking a question, but the entire community. Not to mention it’s also just plain old exciting to ask a question and get a whole slew of answers and possibilities or when you can provide an answer to help someone not make the same mistakes you did. Whatever side of the conversation I am on, it always makes my day!
