Hub Heroes: July 2016

For the month of July, we are proud to highlight the community contributions of Allison Letts and Melissa Barber. Thanks to Allison and Melissa for all you do!
Allison Letts
Friends General Conference
Two truths and one lie about Allison:
- I was in a national commercial when I was 13.
- I’m a twin.
- I was first chair violin in my high school orchestra.
Why is community important to you? What motivates you to contribute?
The Hub is important to me because it’s the first place I go to figure out best practices for data. I love that there are so many people who know a lot more than me, and a lot of people who are just starting out with Salesforce. I keep contributing to the Hub because I love making connections between people trying to solve problems and the people who can help.
Melissa Barber
North Peak Solutions
Two truths and one lie about Melissa:
- I’m an ordained High Priestess of Bacon for the Church of Bacon and I’ve officiated friends weddings.
- I served in the Peace Corps in Malawi for two years.
- I crossed the North Atlantic Ocean on a freighter in the winter, and I don’t get seasick.
Why is community important to you? What motivates you to contribute?
Giving back to my communities was ingrained in me at an early age. As a teenager, I spent my summers volunteering at local nonprofits. When I started my professional career, I spent wintery Saturday mornings planting trees all over Portland for six years before my husband and I moved to Africa to volunteer for the Peace Corps. After we returned, we reformed our careers to work for nonprofits.
Both of the nonprofits I worked for over those six years migrated to Salesforce, and as the accidental techie and onsite project manager for those efforts, I regularly attended our local Salesforce Nonprofit User Group and checked the early rendition of the HUB. These meetings and the Power of Us–with all the generous people sharing their knowledge–were invaluable resources as I got up to speed with Salesforce and the Nonprofit Starter Pack.
Now that I’ve transitioned from being the accidental admin within a nonprofit to working for a firm which serves nonprofits, I’m thrilled to be able to share what I’ve learned with our Power of Us community and to assist in creating help resources that are easy to digest so nonprofits can quickly understand how to use a feature and continue with their work making a better world.
