Dreaming a Future: BizAcademy Japan

On October 25th,  salesforce.com staff from the Tokyo office held their latest BizAcademy with  Multicultural Center Tokyo. They provide educational support for children from various countries. In total 30 students attended and enjoyed a two hour program with two sessions to draw their dream and career.  In the first session,  employees gave speeches about their life experiences, successes and failures.  In the second session, the children created their own “Dream Scrapbook” with picture cuttings from their favorite magazines to embody the image of them when they are 25 years old. Below are some of the comments made by the volunteers on the day.

2012年10月25日、認定NPO法人多文化共生センター東京と協働で、青少年向けキャリア教育プログラム BizAcademyを開催しました。このプログラムは、たぶんかフリースクールの本校の特別授業として実施されました。海外にルーツを持つ子どもたち30名が「25歳の自分」を具体的に描けるようになるよう、日本・アメリカ・フィリピンにルーツを持つセールスフォース・ドットコム社員がこれまでの生い立ちや挑戦について話したり、子どもたちが自分の姿を描いた世界に一つだけの「夢のスクラップブック」づくりを行いました。

25歳の自分を見つめて

We held a BizAcademy at Multicultural Center Tokyo. The children were all originally from outside of Japan and we spent time with them trying to imagine what they will be at 25 years old and they made a “Dream Scrapbook”. In the first half of the session, our employees spoke to them about their life experiences, then, in the second half of the session, the children made their scrapbooks. We really enjoyed this workshop with the children. 多文化共生センター東京にて、BizAcademyを開催しました。海外にルーツを持つ子どもたち30名と25歳の自分はどのようになっているだろうかと考えながら、自分の夢を記したスクラップブックを作成しました。最初に１時間社員から話をし、次の１時間でスクラップブックを作成するスケジュールでしたが、子どもたちととても楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。（河村 嘉之）

The other day we went to Multicultural Center Tokyo for BizAcademy. Multicultural Center Tokyo is a school for foreign children. The children are new to Japan and are still not familiar with the Japanese language and culture, so we planned a program to give support to these children. Three of us gave a speech about how we were at their age and how we got to where we are now. Coming from the Philippines, and knowing how difficult it is to adjust to a foreign country, I was very happy that I could share my experiences with these children. The children were great, they were very attentive, and they asked very interesting questions. In the second half of the session, we asked the children to create a scrapbook of what they want to achieve or have achieved when they turn 25. It was a lot of fun looking for images with the children and creating with them a picture of their future.　　　　　　（Riezel Ramos）

この間、BizAcademyのため多文化共生センター東京を訪問しました。多文化共生センター東京は海外から来た子どもたちの学校です。子どもたちは十分に日本語がわからず、文化にもまだ慣れていないので、そのためのサポートプログラムを作りました。前半では3人の社員から話をしました。私も海外から日本に来ま したので、新しい文化、言語などの勉強の大変さがわかっています。自分の経験（大変なことも楽しいことも含め）を子どもたちに話ができて、本当にうれしいです。子どもたちも色々な面白い質問を聞いてくれて、楽しいセッションを過ごしました。後半では、夢のスクラップブックを作りました。子どもたちと一緒に、夢の画像を探 して楽しかったです。（Riezel Ramos）

I gave a speech to foreign children about how I was at their age, how I did not focus on my studies, and the difficulties I encountered because of that. My talk was intended to be light and contain jokes, but the children were very intent in listening and learning about my experience. They were very positive and encouraging in our talks.  I would be very happy if the children would remember this activity someday when they encounter a difficult experience in their life.（Kazuhiko Imamura）

海外にルーツを持つ子どもたちに、10代では勉強に積極的ではなかったためにその後苦労した私の経験についてスピーチしてきました。私の話はジョークを多く含 むものでしたが、子どもたちはとても素直なリアクションをしながら熱心に聞いてくれました。子どもたちは、みんなとても元気で前向きでした。　  今回の活動で、子どもたちがこれから先に苦労があった時に思い出せる何かを感じてもらえていれば幸 いです。（今村 和彦）
