Celebrating Our San Francisco Public Schools

It’s Public Schools Week, and we are celebrating the amazing educators and inspiring students that make up our local school communities. Public schools are the cornerstone of every community – the vibrancy of our cities depends on them.
At Salesforce, we’re proud to continue our legacy of supporting public schools around the country. To date, we’ve given $165M to support education, based on a pledge our company made to donate $100 million over 10 years to support local schools.
This year marks the tenth year of our partnership with San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), bringing a world-class science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education to San Francisco students and empowering innovation among school leaders.
“Salesforce’s 10-year partnership represents the single largest investment from a private entity to SFUSD. Their support continues to have a profoundly positive impact on San Francisco public school students, preparing them for 21st Century-learning in STEM education, all while decreasing the opportunity gap for our underrepresented students of color and girls. We are incredibly grateful for their leadership, vision, and investment in our public schools,” said Dr. Matt Wayne, SFUSD Superintendent.

SFUSD students best demonstrate what’s possible with this partnership. One high school student, Sean, was struggling to engage in class at the start of high school, likely the result of some challenges in his personal life. Sean found his footing through the Mastering Cultural Identity (MCI) program at June Jordan School for Equity. In partnership with Salesforce Catalyst Fund grantee Kingmakers of Oakland, MCI offers students culturally-affirming curricula and safe healing spaces through classes taught primarily by Black men.
Sean credits the MCI coursework with developing his critical thinking abilities and improving his writing skills, and helping him re-engage in his learning. The results from his program participation have been staggering. Sean improved his 2.0 GPA to a 3.8 GPA.
Sean is just one example of what public-private partnerships can do for our students and educators, and the type of support all students deserve. Building on this success, we hope to reach hundreds of thousands of students just like Sean every day with our education giving.
