3 Ways Salesforce is Investing in the Next Generation of Workers

The Salesforce World Tour in DC brought together some of the best minds in the realms of Equal Pay trailblazers, AI pioneers, and champions of the 21st century workforce. It’s no secret that the technology industry is booming. The industry’s boom brings vast job opportunities, but without the access to education and training needed to succeed in these future jobs, many risk being left behind.

While experts estimate computing jobs will more than double by 2020, underrepresented minorities earn only 11% of engineering degrees and women earn only 17% of computer and information sciences degrees. How can we prepare the next generation with the training and skills needed to succeed in the jobs of tomorrow?

2. YearUp: Bringing Skills and Opportunities to Low-Income Young Adults
One organization is already working hard to boost the next generation of leaders. Year Up is a nonprofit organization that has partnered with Salesforce.org for many years. Year Up provides low-income young adults, ages 18 – 24, with a combination of technical and professional skills, as well as corporate internships and wraparound support.
Last year, we worked with YearUp to bring career advice to aspiring young leaders. And this year, we got the chance to work with YearUp again.

Salesforce is committed to workforce development through Futureforce. What is Futureforce? A set of diverse programs dedicated to training and hiring for the jobs of tomorrow. These efforts, all of which stress equality for all, include university recruitment, computer science curriculum in K-12 schools, training for thousands of veterans and their spouses, an interactive learning platform for technology skills, and hundreds of apprenticeships for urban youth, more than half of whom we’ve hired.
All three of these steps inch the workers of tomorrow toward a better future. Salesforce is proud to help bring them a little closer to career success.
